Pompano Woman Jailed On Dozens Of Animal Cruelty Charges

POMPANO (CBSMiami) -- A 65-year-old woman accused of animal cruelty was put behind bars on a $10,000 bond after facing a judge Wednesday.

Investigators said they found a total of 38 dogs and cats living in deplorable conditions, confined to cages in their own waste and urine at a pet shop owned by Nancy Burgess.

The animals' coats, as well as the walls and floors around them, were also layered with their waste, according to the arrest report.

The pet grooming salon, Dogarrific, located at 2870 N.E. 17th Avenue, was closed in 2014.
