Pompano High School Teacher Finalist For County's "Teacher Of The Year"

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Of the six finalists for Broward County Public Schools' "Teacher of the Year" only one is a high school teacher.

Dr. Andrew Shipe teaches 10th and 11th grade English at Pompano Beach High School. He's been there since January 2000. In addition to his time in classroom, Shipe has also coached soccer and cross country.

Shipe said teachers choose their careers knowing they will get little recognition so being named among the finalists is a big surprise and an honor. His advice to all of his students.

"Keep working hard, keep having high expectations for yourself, keep reading, keep communicating, keep in touch," said Shipe.
