Police: Woman Arrested For Hitting Child And Fighting Parents

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The North Miami Police Department has arrested a woman who allegedly hit a young child and fought other parents.

A child, his younger brother and nephew were walking home from school on Wednesday.

According to police, the eldest child reprimanded his younger brother for attempting to run into traffic.

Authorities said that is when 39-year-old Guerda Fontil got out of her SUV and allegedly struck the child on the forehead with a closed fist.

She reportedly then "pushed the child onto the ground, pinned the child down, repeatedly kicked the child and grabbed the child by the throat."

The child suffered minor injuries.

Other parents who witnessed the incident came to the child's aid and pulled Fontil off the child.

Police said Fontil then fled the area in her SUV.

On Thursday, the other parents reportedly confronted Fontil at Natural Bridge Elementary where another physical altercation ensued between the parents and Fontil.

Police responded and arrested Fontil. She is being charged with child abuse without great bodily harm.
