MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) – North Miami Beach Police said they are investigating an attempted murder-suicide that occurred Friday evening.

Authorities said it started at 6:30 p.m. when a woman called that she had been shot in the face.

Fire rescue rushed the woman to Aventura Hospital where she is in critical condition.

Police set up perimeter outside the home at 1949 NE 180th St. because they were uncertain if someone was barricaded inside.

After hours of trying to communicate with anyone possibly inside the home, police sent in a robot with a camera. Police said they found a man dead on the floor.

"It was very helpful that she was able to speak to our officers as soon as we arrived.  And spoke to paramedics and hospital staff as well, as I understand," said Officer Kathy Katerman.

At this point, investigators think the man and woman were a couple, but can't say for sure yet.

North Miami Beach Police will be at the scene for several more hours as they wait for all the tear gas they shot into the home to clear out. Once it does, investigators can get inside to start piecing together what happened.

Police have not identified either person involved.
