Police Searching For Caller That Made Up Hostage Situation

MIAMI SPRINGS (CBSMiami) – What police determined to be a hoax tied up resources and left investigators searching for a 911 caller they said is responsible.

Sunday, Miami Springs police received a call about a hostage situation in the 200 block of Reinnette Drive, according to CBS4 news partner, The Miami Herald.

However, after numerous officers from Miami Springs, Virginia Gardens, and Miami-Dade County responded, officials determined it was fake.

The caller reportedly told authorities he had shot someone, taken hostages and had a bomb, a police official said.

Now officials need to find the caller.

They asked anyone with information about the hoax to call the Miami Springs Police Department at (305) 888-9711.
