Arrest Made In Miami AutoZone Robbery

MIAMI (CBSMiami) –  Miami Police have arrested a man accused of robbing a Miami AutoZone Tuesday evening.

It was a scary encounter for a group of Auto Zone employees when a man stormed into the store with a gun demanding access to the safe.

It happened just before 8 p.m. inside the store at the intersection of Northeast 1st avenue and 79th street in Miami.

No one was hurt.

A store employee said the gunman pointed the gun at the cashier and told him to open the safe. That's when the manager stepped in and told the robber that the safe was on a timer and it couldn't be opened.

The manager then offered to open the register for the crook. The employee said that's when the robber took the cashier to the back of the store which allowed the manager to run outside and flag down an officer who was driving by.

The man lead officers on a short chase into North Miami before he ditched the car and took off on foot.

Police set up a perimeter in the area and processed the car for evidence.

Investigators said they arrested a person who matches the suspect's description.

Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at (305) 471- TIPS.
