Police Release Identity Of Suspected Carjacker That Sparked Chase

FORTLAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A man is in custody after he allegedly led police on a wild chase in Fort Lauderdale on Friday.

Fort Lauderdale police said 27-year-old Brian Semil approached a woman walking to her vehicle.

Semil reportedly demanded the woman's keys, which she handed over.

Investigators said fled the area in the victim's grey four-door Toyota.

Fort Lauderdale patrol officers attempted to stop the vehicle matching the description, but said Semil refused to stop forcing them to pursue.

The pursuit ended in the 1100 block of West Broward Blvd. after the carjacker crashed.

Semil is being charged with robbery, auto theft, aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer and traffic offenses.
