MIRAMAR (CBSMiami) – Miramar police have found a critical clue in a hit-and-run accident that left a child seriously hurt.

A surveillance camera captured the moment 7-year-old Jayden McFarlane was hit by a van while he was riding his bike Sunday morning in front of his Miramar home.

Now detectives have found the a green and silver Chevrolet Astro van that slammed into him.

"I felt like someone literally punched my lungs because I couldn't breathe," said Jayden's mother, Felissa McFarlane. "I fell on the floor.

Jayden's mom was working at the time. She rushed to the hospital to find her only child in a neck brace.

"I work in the nursing field, and the things that I see at work, you know, it's heart wrenching to know that you could be at work or elsewhere and your child could be dead," she said. "It hurts really bad. And for somebody to hit him and go home to their house, to their family, not knowing if he was OK. Are you even human?"

Besides recovering the Astro van, police said they are talking to a person of interest.

McFarlane said her son is in a great deal of pain. He has some bleeding on the brain and a swollen ankle.

She has a message for every driver.

"You have to be careful and thoughtful of people's life, people's children, family. Stay off your phones, it's not even worth it," she said. "One child I have, and I thank God I didn't lose him. But I can't bear to think what would have happen. How would I survive?"
