HIALEAH (CBSMiami) — Police arrested a man they believed shot a man as he was trying to steal a gold chain off of another man's neck.

According to police, Peter Wilkinson, 24, got out of a black SUV and approached the victim, 37-year-old Ariel Arzola outside of his place of employment on E 10 Court Saturday, October 19 around 4:00 p.m.

The victim struggled and police said Wilkinson shot Arzola in the abdomen.

Police added Wilkinson fired a gun at another victim who attempted to confront Wilkinson.

Witness accounts and the investigation led police to Wilkinson in Miami Gardens after he reported his car stolen when he realized witnesses got a view of the getaway vehicle.

Arzola remains in stable condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
