TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBSMiami/AP) —The killing of a Florida State University law professor wast part of a murder-for-hire scheme, according to newly released court records.

Sigfredo Garcia was arrested in South Florida last week in connection to the July 2014 death of Daniel Markel. Garcia made a brief appearance in court Thursday and his lawyer says he'll plead not guilty.

But court records show a second man was also involved in Markel's death.

The arrest affidavit also says the killing "stemmed from the desperate desire" of Markel's ex-wife's family to have Wendi Adelson and the couple's two children move to South Florida. It does not, however, say who hired the killers.

Markel was shot in the head inside his Tallahassee garage during the middle of the day.
