FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) --  Authorities are investigating a police involved shooting in a Fort Lauderdale neighborhood Tuesday.

Officers said a Fort Lauderdale Police officer was investigating a person they deemed "suspicious" near the 600 Block of NW 11th Avenue just before 10 a.m.

At some point, the officer fired prompting the person to jump into a car and drive off.

During the chase, the person crashed into a driver who was not involved near NW 31st and 6th Street. That's when the suspect jumped out of the car and tried to get away on foot.

Officers were able to catch up and arrest the suspect  a few blocks away.

The suspect was not injured in the shooting.  The driver of the car that was crashed into suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Fort Lauderdale Police say the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
