Police-Involved Shooting At Hotel In Hallandale Beach

HALLANDALE (CBSMiami) - One person was hurt in an officer-involved shooting in Hallandale Beach Thursday, police said.

According to investigators, an officer was working an "enforcement operation" when he was forced to open fire on a man in the parking lot behind the Hampton Inn hotel on SE 9th Street and 4th Avenue.

The specific nature of the enforcement operation was not immediately revealed.

The shooting took place at about 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Capt. Sonia Quinones said.

She described the person who was shot as a male in his early 30s.

His injuries were not life threatening, Capt. Quinones said.

Joan Nevins, a guest at the Hampton Inn, said she was turned away when she tried to enter the parking lot.

"They told me it was a crime scene," she said.

She said she was alarmed by what happened and surprised because the hotel is typically quiet and safe.

Police said the operation was not related to the hotel, it just happened to take place in that parking lot.

Investigators were on scene until about 7:30 waiting for the vehicles involved to be towed.

A bullet hole could be seen in the front windshield of a silver sedan parked in the lot.

Police said the officer who fired his weapon would be interviewed.

The name of the man who was shot was not immediately released.
