MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade Police swarmed a neighborhood near Ives Dairy Road and I-95 Thursday night.

Police say a person in the neighborhood called 911 after seeing a man frantically fleeing the area with a young child and saying something about a shooting.

At the same time, police say they got a call from Aventura Hospital about a 2-year-old child arriving there with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

"Miami-Dade Police responded to Aventura Hospital and got information that a possible drive-by had occurred in this area," said Det. Chris Thomas.

The person who gave the information to police about the drive-by even provided a description of a car to look for.

But late Thursday night, police said that information was incorrect.

"The initial investigation has revealed that this was not a drive by shooting but this shooting occurred somewhere inside of the residence," Thomas said.

Investigators are not releasing many details and they're not saying if the information about the drive-by was intentionally misleading or just a miscommunication of some sort.

We're told the child's father is cooperating with detectives as they try to sort out who lives in the home where the shooting occurred, where the gun is and who shot the child.

The good news is, police say, the child is doing well.

"We're thankful that the child is pulling through," Thomas said.
