DELRAY BEACH (CBSMiami) -- A 16-year-old, who was struck and killed by a train, likely did not hear it coming because he was wearing headphones.

On Tuesday, Jesus Villalobos, 16, was walking along the Florida East Coast Railway tracks when he was hit by a train, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Delray Beach Police said the train conductor saw the boy and sounded the horn but could not stop in time. Villalobos likely didn't hear the horn or the train itself because of his headphones, police concluded.

Officers said Villalobos was from Colombia and was a student-athlete at Elev8 Sports Institute, playing on the school's baseball team.
