LAKE CITY (CBSMiami/AP) – A 16-month-old north Florida girl died when one of her parents forgot to drop her off at day care, leaving her inside a car, according to authorities.

Columbia County Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call Tuesday afternoon and found the girl was unresponsive.

Sheriff's spokesman Murray Smith says at least one of the child's parents is a state employee with whom the sheriff's office has frequent interaction. So, the case is being investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Officials did not specify which parent works for the state or name the agency.

No further details were immediately available.
