Police: Fight Ends In Plantation Officer-Involved Shooting

PLANTATION (CBSMiami) – Plantation Police said an officer shot a man after the two got in a fight Sunday night.

Authorities said an officer, on foot patrol along State Road 7, encountered man behind a building at 330 S State Road 7 and told him to leave.

The man, who is believed to be in his 50s, reportedly refused and then punched officer in the face.

"The officer discharged his Taser, which was ineffective and at some point in time, he discharged the firearm," said Plantation Police Det. Philip Toman. "The officer suffered minor facial injuries and the male that was shot. I don't know the severity of his (the man's) injuries but he's at Broward General."

The officer was believed to be taken to Plantation Medical Center.

Police have not released the identity.

It is unknown if officer is out of hospital yet. Police are not releasing officer's name yet.
