HOMESTEAD (CBSMiami) – Authorities are working to determine a baby boy's cause of death after his body was found inside a freezer of a Homestead home.

It all happened Sunday when the Monroe County Sheriff's Office made contact with Paola Vargas-Ortiz who they said was attempting to kill herself.

Once deputies made contact with Vargas-Ortiz, she reportedly gave conflicting stories regarding the well-being of her child.

According to MCSO deputies, Vargas-Ortiz stated her baby boy was in the freezer of her home at 2482 NE 3rd Ct. in Homestead.

Homestead police officers descended on the home where they found the baby's body in the freezer.

Due to Vargas-Ortiz mental state, investigators said they're awaiting the Medical Examiner's report for official identification of the boy.

Authorities also said until the M.E. report comes out, no charges have been filed against anyone at this time.
