"I ain't seen anything like this here," Steven Vactor, who lives nearby, told CBS News Miami.
The call for officers went over police radio right before 3 p.m. Saturday. Plantation Fire Rescue told CBS News Miami that the shooting was an "officer-involved incident." Plantation Police confirmed to CBS News Miami that the shooting had occurred, and that one person was shot and taken to an area hospital.
CBS News Miami saw forensic experts on the scene placing what appeared to be a blanket on a brown evidence bag. People in the area told CBS News Miami that there is a homeless man who sleeps at the nearby bus stop, but it is unclear whether the man is the person who was shot.
"It makes me feel upset because the guy who is over there never bothers anybody. He's been there for a long time," Vactor said. "I ride my bike past there every day -- he's always there. I say 'hi' to him, [and] he says 'hi' back. You know, just a real gentle spirit, you can tell that."
At this time, Plantation Police have not provided further information related to the shooting. CBS News Miami is working to learn the identity of the person shot and the circumstances that led up to the shooting.
As per protocol with all shootings involving police, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is also at the scene to investigate.
