KEY WEST (CBSMiami) -- A small plane landed short of the runway in the Florida Keys on Saturday, ending up in salt ponds with passengers on board.

Monroe County deputies said the single engine plane had been traveling from Naples to Key West around 10:30 a.m.

That's when, shortly before trying to  land at the Key West Airport, the pilot reported engine failure, deputies said.

Six passengers were on board at the time, according to deputies.
