MIAMI LAKES (CBSMiami/AP) — After beating federal corruption charges and winning a lengthy court fight with his own city, Miami Lakes' mayor is running for a third term.

Michael Pizzi filed papers Friday to run in the Nov. 8 election.

The Miami Herald reports that Pizzi will face former mayor Wayne Slaton and current Councilman Manny Cid.

Pizzi defeated Slaton in the 2012 election with about 68 percent of the vote.

Slaton was appointed to replace Pizzi after his August 2013 arrest by the FBI, but ultimately lost his post when Pizzi was found not guilty by a federal jury.

An appeals court ruled Pizzi should be returned to office over the city's objection.

Pizzi was charged in an undercover FBI operation with accepting $6,000 in illegal cash and campaign contributions.
