MIAMI LAKES (CBSMiami/AP) — Michael Pizzi has had an interesting few years.

Pizzi says he will run for a third term as Miami Lakes mayor following his acquittal on federal corruption charges and a lengthy court fight with his own city.

Pizzi will run against at least three other candidates this fall, including former Mayor Wayne Slaton. Slaton was appointed to replace Pizzi after his August 2013 arrest, but ultimately lost his post when Pizzi was found not guilty by a federal jury.

The town and Slaton had refused to restore Pizzi, but they relented after an appeals court agreed he should be reinstated. Pizzi also won a state Supreme Court ruling that lifted Gov. Rick Scott's order suspending him from office.

Pizzi was charged in an undercover FBI sting operation with accepting $6,000 in illegal cash and campaign contributions.
