DANIA BEACH (CBSMiami) - The names of the pilot and his passenger who died in a small plane crash off Dania Beach have been released.

Seventy three year old Frederick Gautzsch Jr. of Boca Raton was at the controls of the four-seat Cessna when it plunged into 40 feet of water just 200 yards off the shore last Saturday, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. He and his passenger, 66-year-old Robert Chartrand of LaSalle, Quebec, were both killed.

Gautzsch and Chartrand had taken off Pompano Beach Airpark and were headed to a private airport in Key Largo when the plane went down.

The tower had warned Gautzsch there was bad weather and advised him to take a route another three miles off shore to avoid it. That was the last interaction they had with him.
