Pill Mill Doc Faces Up To 350 Years In Prison

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami/AP) — A South Florida doctor is looking at up to 350 years in prison for his part in a pill mill operation.

A Broward County jury convicted Dr. Thomas Rodenberg, 54, on all 14 charges, including racketeering, trafficking in the painkiller oxycodone, conspiracy and illegal delivery of controlled substances.

Rodenberg was one of 11 people arrested in 2012 as part of a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration-led investigation into the Pompano Beach Medical pain clinic. Undercover officers posed as patients during a three-year probe, obtaining numerous prescriptions for controlled substances although there was no medical need.

Authorities say the 55 prescriptions for undercover officers included nearly 3,000 units of oxycodone.
