PEMBROKE PINES (CBSMiami) – Pembroke Pines police detectives are investigating an early-morning shooting in an attempted carjacking.

Police says a woman driving early Monday morning on a stretch of Pembroke Road near the southern side of Century Village encountered armed criminals bent on stealing her car.

"There were two white vehicles traveling in front of her which she noticed was driving awkwardly or suspiciously," said Capt. Al Xiques. Moments later, Xiques said, the drivers of the two cars stopped their vehicles and blocked the woman's path.

"Two subjects exited one of the vehicles and walked towards her vehicle and she saw a firearm in one of their hands," he said.

Police say the woman made a quick move to flee.

"She put her car in reverse immediately and backed up at which time they started discharging their firearms towards her car, striking her car several times in the hood and windshield," Xiques said.

Amazingly she wasn't hurt and made it to this nearby gas station to ask for help.

"Her quick thinking probably saved her life," Xiques said.

Pembroke Pines Police say police in Miramar recovered one of the cars involved in the attempted carjacking.

That vehicle was reported stolen out of Miami Gardens.

They're still looking for another car involved in the incident.

Xiques said investigators believe the Pines case is likely connected to a carjacking at a Wells Fargo bank on Miramar Parkway early Monday morning.

Miramar Police say a man at an ATM was approached by two men who demanded his car.

The men drove off in the victim's 2014 white Toyota RAV4.

Pembroke Pines Police believe the case is also likely connected to a case in Davie Monday morning.

Pines wants the men caught and says their investigators are working closely with investigators in Davie and Miramar to make that happen.

"We're very concerned for the public's safety," Xiques said. "This was a very brazen, violent act by two individuals who had absolutely no regard for the life and safety of the individual they chose to victimize this morning."
