Pembroke Pines Police Chase Of Stolen Vehicle Ends In Crash

HALLANDALE BEACH (CBSMiami) - A police chase from Pembroke Pines into Hallandale Beach ended when the driver being pursued lost control of his vehicle, causing it to roll over.

Pembroke Pines police say officers spotted a pickup truck that had been reported as stolen in the 7100 block of Pembroke Road.

When an undercover officer approached it, police say the driver put the truck in reverse and slammed into the officer's car before speeding off.

The chase ended when the driver of the truck tried to exit I-95 at Hallandale Beach Boulevard.

He lost control and crashed the truck through a chain link fence before it landed on its side and caught on fire.

Drew Clark was working in the lot of his medical supply business next to the ramp when the driver blew by in the stolen pickup.

"All of a sudden I hear a big crash, 20 cops from everywhere," said Clark. "I didn't know what was going on. The car ripped through our fence and crashed into our tool shed. Our buses are good. No serious damage."

Garey Wray manages a charter bus company located next to the crash scene.

"We heard a loud sound. I came outside and saw all the smoke and everything, so we just started running outside cause we saw the smoke and the fire started to build up on the car and the cops came in and that was it," said Wray. "The driver was stuck in there the entire time, we couldn't see him, we weren't sure what was going on with him. Thank God the cops and firefighters got him out in time before anything got worse."

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue had to cut the trapped driver out of the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital to be checked out.

The police officer whose car was rammed by the driver was also checked out at a local area hospital.
