Pembroke Pines PD Investigating After SUV Hit Pedestrian

PEMBROKE PINES (CBSMiami) – A pedestrian was hit by an SUV early Sunday morning and is in critical condition, police said.

The incident occurred just after 5:30 a.m. at 7000 Pines Boulevard.

According to officers, a black Nissan Pathfinder, driven by Derek Ragoonath, 51, hit Exavier Lucumi, 26, while he was trying to cross the road.

Lucumi was not in a crosswalk, said police.

He sustained serious injuries and is at Memorial Regional Hospital.  Officers made contact with Ragoonath a short distance from the scene of the crash.

No charges have been filed, but the investigation is still ongoing.
