WEST PALM BEACH (CBSMiami) -- Authorities are looking for a man who they say shot at a Broward Sheriff's detective trying to help them in West Palm Beach.

West Palm Beach Police said the Detective Elisa Galindez was off duty Tuesday around 6 a.m. and was heading home in an unmarked police car, wearing plain clothes.

As she exited I-95 at Southern Boulevard, she spotted what she thought was a disabled car. When she pulled up next to it, an armed black man got out and started firing at her, according to police.

That's when Galindez shot back at him and then called 911 before pulling up nearby.

The gunman and another person in the car got away.

No injuries were reported but a bullet hole was seen on the driver's side window of her undercover car.

Police said they are looking for an older model white 4-door sedan with dark tints occupied by two black males.

People who live in the area said there has been some criminal activity in the area.

"I'm somewhat surprised but last year, there was a housekeeper who was murdered and lived six blocks over," said one neighbor.

Anyone with information on the man involved in the shoot out are urged to call Palm Beach Crimestoppers at (561) 684-6333.
