Parts Of Chapman Field Park Temporarily Closed For Toxic Soil Removal

CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) – Baseball fields at a Coral Gables park are temporarily closed following soil samples that revealed high levels of arsenic.

City officials have closed the fields at Chapman Field Park after recent sampling, conducted by the Division of Environmental Resources Management (DERM) along with the state's department of health, revealed higher than normal concentrations of arsenic in the soil.

The park, located at 13610 Deering Bay Drive, was closed "out of an abundance of caution and as a proactive measure" according to the county's press release.

The Chapman Field Park was sampled as part of the ongoing effort to screen parks for potential contamination—which has prompted the closure of several county parks in the past months.

The canoe launch at the park, as well as the dog-friendly areas, parking and walkways, will remain open according to the press release.
