SUNRISE (CBSMiami) – With a new season just days away from beginning, the Florida Panthers swapped prospects with a former division rival.

The Panthers announced on Tuesday that former second-round pick Connor Brickley had been traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for center Brody Sutter.

Brody, 25, is the son of former Panthers head coach Duane Sutter, who is one of six Sutter brothers to have played in the NHL.

A former seventh-round pick of the Hurricanes in 2011, Sutter is expected to start the year with Florida's American Hockey League affiliate in Springfield, Massachusetts.

In 211 career AHL games, Sutter has 36 goals and 47 assists including 13 goals and 11 assists in 70 games last season.

He has played in 12 NHL games but has yet to record any points.

Brickley, 24, turned some heads after making the Panthers Opening Night roster out of training camp last season and ended up playing 23 games with Florida, scoring one goal and adding four assists.

In three seasons in the AHL, Brickley has 35 goals and 41 assists in 126 games.
