SUNRISE (CBSMiami) – Florida Panthers winger Jonathan Huberdeau has been named the NHL's Third Star of the Week for games between January 5th and January 11th, the league announced on Monday.

Also receiving the honor was St. Louis Blues center David Backes (first star) and Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov (second star).

Huberdeau finished tied for second in the league with five points (3 goals, 2 assists) during the week, helping the Panthers complete a perfect three-game trip through Western Canada.  Florida defeated the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers.

The Panthers now hold a 20-11-9 record through 40 games, setting them one point back of the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.  The spot is currently being held by the Boston Bruins, who have played three more games than the Panthers.

The 21-year-old Huberdeau has been playing some great hockey over the past several weeks. After a slow start to the season, Huberdeau is now fourth on the Panthers in scoring with 22 points (7 goals, 15 assists) through 37 games played.

In his last 18 games, Huberdeau has compiled 16 points (6 goals, 10 assists) and is regaining the form that saw him win the NHL's Calder Trophy as the league's most outstanding rookie during the 2012-13 season.
