ORLANDO (CBSMiami/AP) — Advocates in central Florida said they have found homes for nearly all of the region's homeless veterans.

A leader with the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness said last week that virtually all the area's once-chronically homeless veterans have been given housing.

Andrae Bailey says he is filing notice with the federal government that nearly 1,000 veterans have been housed in the past three years.

The federal government will then review the local data to determine if the Orlando area has indeed reached "functional zero" when it comes to homelessness among veterans.

Florida has had some of the highest numbers of homeless veterans in the nation.
