Opa-locka police sergeant arrested on domestic violence charges, Miramar police say

FORT LAUDERDALE - An Opa-locka police officer was arrested on domestic abuse charges.

Johane Taylor is accused of physically attacking a woman he was married to for years. He also reportedly threatened her with his gun.

The woman told police that she feared for her life.

"The defendant allegedly told the victim that if she called the police and he lost his job, he would make sure that she paid for it," according to his arrest report.

Taylor is also accused of physically abusing her three children.

Taylor is the brother of current Opa-locka Mayor John Taylor and Johane Taylor is the youngest son of former Mayor Myra Taylor.

He is facing several charges including felony battery and aggravated child abuse. 

On Wednesday afternoon the City of Opa-locka released the following statement:

"The City of Opa-locka and its police department have a zero-tolerance policy for police misconduct."

"At approximately 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, Opa-locka Police Sergeant Johane Taylor, Jr. was arrested by the City of Miramar Police Department. At that same time, the decision was made to immediately relieve Sergeant Taylor of duty without pay pending the results of an investigation."
