NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash in Northwest Miami-Dade between a box truck and another vehicle that left one person dead.

FHP identified the driver of a truck that crashed as 49-year-old Charles Lomax.

They said Lomax stole a plumbing truck out of a Tamarac shopping center and drove it to Northwest Miami-Dade where he smashed into a tree and was killed instantly.

FHP said a driver alerted them that Lomax was in a stolen truck, but he failed to stop when they tried to pull him over.

They say Lomax hit two cars on I-95 then headed west on State 112, where he exited off the NW 17 Street ramp and hit two more vehicles before crashing into a tree.

No one else was seriously hurt, even though one car landed on its roof.

Police said Lomax was arrested in May 2015 for stealing a food truck in Sunrise that belonged to a charity helping children battling cancer.
