"Once" Makes South Florida Premiere At The Adrienne Arsht Center

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Once, a Tony Award-winning Best Musical based on the Academy Award-winning film, is now on stage at the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami.

It's all about the music in this play which began in 2006 with a low budget  indie film  starring the music writers themselves, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova.

The original love song, "Falling Slowly," won an academy award for best original song. Six years later, Once ended up in Broadway and the rest is history.

In this touring production, Stuart Ward and Dani de Waal star as alongside a multi-talented ensemble cast.

"All the actors play the instruments. They don't leave the stage. Even if they're not in the scene they play by the side of the stage," said Dani.

The actors say the music gets to them every time they perform it.

"The music of this show is beautiful. It's tricky to stay close to what people want to hear from Glenn's music and then give it something from yourself," said Ward.

Once tells the story of an Irish street musician whose about to give up his dream when a young women suddenly takes interest in his haunting love songs.

Their chemistry grows and so does the power of their music together, leaving audiences with a range of emotions.

"It's about love, loss, and fear of the future ad much more," said Dani.
