Walls Of Old Miami Herald Building Come Tumbling Down

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Demolition is underway on the old Miami Herald building near downtown Miami.

Crews have started taking the structure down on its south end.

Resorts World Miami, who bought the site, said they have big plans for it.

"Demolition of the former Miami Herald building's exterior walls has begun as expected, marking the first step in the transformation of one of downtown Miami's most important waterfront sites," said Christian Goode, President of Resorts World Miami, in a statement. "Once completed, Resorts World Miami will be a critical anchor for downtown."

The plan for the space is to create residential, hotel and retail spaces along with public access to Biscayne Bay and Musuem Park. Phase one of the bay-front project will instead focus on a luxury hotel and two condominiums.
