SECAUCUS, N.J. (CBSMiami) -- A New Jersey Transit officer has been hailed a hero after rescuing a man who was lying on the train tracks in Secaucus, CBS New York reported.

Video from Friday, August 26th, showed Officer Victor Ortiz below the platform struggling to help the man get off the tracks.

Just seconds after he's finally pulled from the track, the train rushes by.

"NJ Transit could not be more proud of Victor Ortiz and of the New Jersey Transit Police Department and we hope this serves as a stark reminder of what these men and women do every single day to keep us safe throughout this state," NJ Transit said in a statement Sunday.

Police did not say why the man was on the tracks.
