Officer Dragged Behind Car During Traffic Stop

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A police officer making a routine traffic stop wound up in a potentially deadly situation in Miami-Dade County Friday.

It happened early Friday morning near the intersection of 262nd Street and U.S. 1. Two officers made a traffic stop when one of the officers noticed drugs inside the car.

At that point, the two subjects in the car, Tavaris Brockington, 25, and Patrick Joyner, 32, hit the gas trying to get away from the officers, dragging one of the cops behind the suspect's car.

Officers opened fire on the car and eventually both people in the car bailed out of the car at 232nd Street near U.S. 1.

Police were able to catch both the driver, Brockington, and the passenger, Joyner, a short time later. The officer who was dragged was not injured in the incident.
