Ninth Panther Found Dead In Florida

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Wildlife officials said the remains of a 1-year old Florida Panther on Saturday in Lee County.
The carcass was found on I-75 about a one-half miles South of Exit 123, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Crews determined the panther died due to a vehicle collision, making it the ninth panther death in Florida and the seventh to die from a vehicle collision this year.
The carcass will be sent to the FWC Gainesville Research Lab for necropsy.
Officials said the panther, identified by a transponder chip, was originally handled by crews at the Big Cypress National Preserve in September 2013 when he was 3-weeks old.
