New Storm Water Pumps To Reduce Flooding In Miami

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Flooding is usually a problem in parts of Miami due to tidal flooding.

Whether it's the area around Alton Road and 5th street or on West Avenue and 10th street, tidal flooding causes the waters to rise out of storm drains.

On Tuesday night though, the roads were dry.

New storm water pumps on Miami Beach appear to be doing their job, keeping roads mostly clear as seasonal high tides roll in.

City officials hope the $400 million pump system upgrade will reduce flooding and improve drainage.

The pumps will likely get a workout over the next few days as the higher tides continue due to the strong gravitational pull of the earth, sun and moon all being in alignment.
