New Hybrid Sports Car Zooms From Movie Screen To South Florida

POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) - As super-agent Ethan Hunt in "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol", Tom Cruise had quite the ride driving a Hollywood prototype version of the BMW i8.

Thursday, at Vista BMW in Pompano Beach, the first BMW i8 arrived at the showroom.

"The 'Mission Impossible' vehicle is right here live and in person," said James Krutulus of Vista BMW in Pompano Beach.

Yes, the super-sleek part electric, part gasoline sports car with state-of-the-art sleek, thin scissor doors,   is what many say is the evolution of the ultimate driving machine.

"This is the ultimate driving machine of the future. It's 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and Car and Driver pulled off 0-60 mph in 3.8 so we will see!" said James.

The BMW i8 's gas and electric systems are actually partners with four different driving modes from E-drive, Eco Pro, Comfort and Sport.

"So they work in synchronization with each other," said James.

CBS4's Lisa Petrillo asked about the car's top speed.

"155 mph top speed," Krutulus said.

The car's sticker price is for $135,000, but we've heard to actually expect a much higher price tag. In fact, one was auctioned at around $800,000.

"It's a very individual vehicle,  a very special vehicle and we're not going to be getting a lot of them in U.S., so $135,000 is not really going to happen," Krutulus added.
