New Florida Quarter To Feature The Everglades

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The U.S. Mint will release a new Florida quarter in November that features the Everglades of South Florida.

The scene on the "tails" side of the quarter will feature a long-necked anhinga spreading its wings and a spoonbill wading in the background.

The rim will show the words "Everglades," "Florida" and "E Pluribus Unum," plus the year of release: 2014.

A public ceremony to introduce the new quarter to the public is expected in November near the Everglades National Park.

The new quarter is part of The Mint's "America the Beautiful Quarters Program" which began in 2010 and will continue through 2021.

It will honor 56 national parks and other national sites.

The Everglades quarter will be the only one depicting a Florida site.
