New Details In Fatal Accident On I-95
HALLANDALE BEACH (CBSMiami) – A multiple car crash on I-95 caused all southbound lanes and the on-ramp at Hallandale Beach Boulevard to be blocked on Saturday night.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, Marlene Bernard, 35, was heading south in the inside lane of I-95 when she lost control of her 2005 Chevy Trailblazer for an undetermined reason and veered to the right.
Bernard's vehicle then struck the left rear of a 1993 Ford Ranger driven by Ronald Dwayne Griffin, 53, who was traveling south on the middle lane of I-95.
According to FHP, Griffin lost control of his vehicle upon impact and he was ejected when the car overturned. Bernard's vehicle veered back to the left following the collision and struck the barrier wall separating the northbound and southbound lanes of I-95, ejecting her from the car.
Both drivers were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood where Griffin was pronounced dead, according to FHP.
The southbound lanes of I-95 were reopened at 11:30 p.m., approximately four hours after the fatal accident took place.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
