FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- Hundreds of miles from any sign of snow, winter storms stranded South Florida travelers.

More than 100 flights were delayed and two dozen canceled Saturday at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport.

Terminals filled up with frustrated travelers trying to rebook or figure out how to make their connections.

The wicked weather up North is having a ripple effect, impacting flights all over the country.

"We were connecting through Washington and going from Washington over to Dublin, Ireland and the flights about two and a half  hours delayed leaving here so we're going to miss the connection and the next time they can get us out is next Thursday or Friday ," said traveler David Bobbett.

Bobbett who is traveling with 6 children just returned from a cruise, so did Clyde Piland. His family was headed to San Francisco. "We've got a ride waiting to pick us up," he said.  Their flight was canceled. Instead they're flying into Oakland on Tuesday.

Some travelers scrambled  to make alternate plans.

Rita Carrozza said, "We might drive back to New York, but to take the car back to costs 700 dollars."
