ORLANDO, Fla. (CBSMiami/AP) — A Navy veteran is set to serve life in prison for killing his pregnant wife.

Circuit Judge Greg Tynan sentenced 35-year-old Michael Boyce on Monday to life in prison for the death of Alexis Boyce. He was originally charged with the deaths of the twin sons she was carrying but the state dropped those charges in exchange for his plea.

The Orlando Sentinel reports Alexis Boyce and one of the boys died the day of the shooting in 2013. The other baby survived for a week in a neonatal-intensive care unit before he was taken off life support.

Boyce originally told Orange County Sheriff's investigators his wife was suicidal and shot herself. He later said he accidentally shot her.
