Murdered Woman's Family Wants New Missing Persons Procedures

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The family of murder victim Tanya Gonzalez is asking for Senator Marco Rubio to review police procedures for finding missing adults.

Family members made the announcement on the same day the family buried Gonzalez.

The family members want Senator Rubio to push for changes to how missing adult cases are handled, such as faster reporting of information that could help locate the person.

Gonzalez' body was found Tuesday in the trunk of her own car by private investigators working with the family.

At that point, she had been missing for one week.

Gonzalez' ex-boyfriend, Roy Blanco, is believed to have killed her.  Blanco also died as authorities were closing in on him in Key West, the same day Gonzalez' car was located.

"He took with him to the grave a lot of things that we will never know for certain," said Ramon Gonzalez, Tanya's father.

Gonzalez' father believes alerts about Tanya and her vehicle should have been put out to other law enforcement agencies immediately upon receiving information about her being missing.

Police released Blanco's picture and named him a person of interest several days after her family said she was reported missing and one day before Gonzalez' body was located.

"Perhaps, yes, I may have not have saved my daughter, but we would have had an open casket. Not a sealed casket," said Ramon Gonzalez.

Senator Rubio's office told CBS4 that the case is just now being discussed within the office and it is not yet clear whether Senator Rubio will meet with the Gonzalez family.

Gonzalez' father lives in New Jersey, but plans to stay in Miami until the Miami Police Department's investigation is complete.

The Miami Police Department has not commented.
