6 Northeast High Students Hospitalized After Attending Military Ball In Davie

DAVIE (CBS Miami) – Half a dozen teens were rushed to the hospital after feeling ill during a military ball for their high school ROTC program.

According to Broward County Public School officials, six students from Northeast High School got sick Thursday night while attending the Air Force JROTC Military Ball at the Signature Grand in Davie.

According to students in attendance, the teens reported feeling dizzy and were throwing up.

"I saw everybody crying and grieving and I think I saw one having a seizure," said Lorenzo Toafa.

Another student said he thinks the water at their tables was spiked with something.

DAVIE (CBS Miami) – Half a dozen teens were rushed to the hospital after feeling ill during a military ball for their high school JROTC program.

According to Broward County Public School officials, six students from Northeast High School got sick Thursday night while attending the Air Force JROTC Military Ball at the Signature Grand in Davie. The students who were taken to the hospital were between the ages of 15 to 18 years old.

As of Friday afternoon, four students had been released but two remained at Broward Health Medical Center.

According to students in attendance, the teens reported feeling dizzy and were throwing up.

"I saw everybody crying and grieving and I think I saw one having a seizure," said Lorenzo Toafa.

Another student said he thinks the water at their tables may have been spiked with something.

Davie police said at this time, it is unclear what substance was ingested, but information suggests it was an over-the-counter legal substance.

District officials said school staff is at the hospital to offer any necessary assistance to the students' families. They added that they are closely following the Davie Police investigation into what caused the students to become ill.

Students from Coral Springs High School were also at the event but none got sick.
