MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- More than two dozen expected members of a southwest Miami-Dade street gang have been taken into custody as part of a multi-agency sweep.

The "Yellow Tape" gang is known to operate out of the Cutler Manor community, authorities said.

In the pre-dawn darkness Wednesday, June 29th, Miami-Dade Police searched an area in southwest Miami-Dade, serving search warrants and rounding up at least 25 suspected Yellow Tape members.

"They're a very tight-nit group," said Miami-Dade Police Chief Juan Perez, who added that many of them have been together since they were just kids. "A lot of violence, a lot of guns. And all stemming from drug activity."

Perez added that the gang has terrorized the neighborhood.

"So today, hopefully, we bring some tranquility to all of those residents that are caught in the middle of this fight," said Chief Perez.

Police said the suspects were involved in drug dealing, armed robbery, burglaries, battery and murder -- the majority of whom were rounded up in three Cutler Manor apartment buildings.

They're all being charged with organized racketeering, among a host of other offenses, and were transported to jail.
