MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A federal officer with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection for Miami International Airport was killed in a violent motorcycle crash late Saturday night, FHP reported.

The Florida Highway Patrol stated Marc Izquierdo, 53, was traveling northbound on the Palmetto Expressway entering the northbound I-75 ramp at a high-rate of speed when he lost control.

Izquierdo was thrown from the motorcycle and hit guardrail.  The motorcycle and Izquierdo landed 500 feet from the initial impact.

Officials said he suffered severe trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

It is not clear if alcohol played a role in the crash.  The driver was wearing a helmet, FHP reported.
