Parents Of Rare Quadruplets Finally Take First Baby Home

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Birthing quadruplets is rare. To naturally conceive them is almost a miracle. This 1 in 700,000 extraordinary medical occurrence just happened recently at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

"The doctor's like, 'oh you have one baby. Now you have two, oh no wait, you have three,' and he wouldn't even say there was a fourth because he was in shock," said Ivanna Gutierrez.

However, she was informed the smallest baby, Gabriel, was starved of nutrients.

"We felt terrible, like 'oh no one of our babies is going to die.' We're like 'we need to get him out right now. Let's do it,'" Gutierrez said.

The news forced Gutierrez to have an emergency C-section three months earlier than her due date.

"I think it's God's will that he wanted him (Gabriel) to be part of the family," Ivanna Gutierrez's husband David Gutierrez said.

Gabriel was just one pound when he was born, but after constant care and oxygen in the neonatal intensive-care unit he and his siblings are all strong.

Now, after three months of waiting, the young parents are bringing home their first baby – Francesca, the only girl of the bunch.

The parents expect to bring home Gabriel, Julian and Sebastian in a month.

"They're a blessing to all of us, and our family, and the whole world!" Ivanna Gutierrez said.

Ivanna Gutierrez said the quadruplets are already showing them what makes them each special.

About "Baby A," Julian, Ivanna said, "He looks like he's the quiet one."

"Baby B," Sebastian, "looks like he's gonna be wild," she laughed.

"Francesca, which is "Baby C," she's quiet, her personality is very calm. And "Baby D," which is Gabriel, right now he's like 'I don't want to be touched, I don't want nothing with you guys. Leave me alone, I've been through a lot,'" she said.

The parents told CBS4's Natalia Zea they aren't sure how to carryout caring for four newborns, but they are taking it moment by moment.

Luckily, Ivanna Gutierrez said she is one of four siblings herself.

"Maybe it was meant to be," Zea told Ivanna Gutierrez.

"I think it was, then one of each can take care of one of the babies," Ivanna Gutierrez laughed.
