More Than A Dozen Injured In Boca Dock Collapse

BOCA RATON (CBSMiami) – More than a dozen people attending a family reunion in Boca Raton took an unexpected swim after the dock they were standing on suddenly collapsed.

Nearly 40 family members were gathered at the Boca Bayou club house Tuesday afternoon and were taking a group photo on a dock when it gave way, sending 13 of them tumbling into the water.

Boca Raton Fire Rescue said the dock collapsed at an angle with some victims falling directly into the water, while others tumbled down the sloping ramp.

Most swam to a nearby dock and used its ladder to climb out.

By the time first responders got there, everyone was out of the water.

Three people were injured, including two women. They were taken to a hospital with what are described as minor injuries, such as scrapes and bruises.

The reason the dock collapsed is under investigation.
